The Mount Laurel Office of Emergency Management exists to serve the emergency needs of the community whether it is a natural disaster, major storm system, long-term power outage, chemical or hazardous material incident or homeland security threat. OEM works closely with the Mount Laurel Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to develop plans to handle an “All-Hazard” approach to community safety. The “All-Hazard” approach has been a cornerstone of FEMA’s response program since the agency was first established. It integrates the various emergency plans and activities into a “life cycle” of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery (the principles of emergency management) and, when combined with the incident command system, provides a template for inter-agency coordination that is directly applicable to various emergency events.”Citizens Helping Citizens” We also have a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program that helps train volunteer citizens to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.OEM will be posting various information bulletins related to weather, health, safety, education, travel advisories, homeland security and events on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Additional emergency information will be transmitted via Nixle and Swift 911.
