Dear Residents,

Due to the change in the Burlington County Recycling services, the recycling yard on Midlantic Avenue will only be open during business hours of Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM(unless closed for Holidays) and the first and third Saturday of the month during hazardous waste collection times of 8 AM to 12 PM. Please check the website as Holidays will affect these dates. The information can be found by visiting mountlaurel.com and clicking on the Hazardous Waste or the Recycling page for the most up to date information.

Reason for the change:

Burlington County Recycling stated:

“The global recycling crisis, caused by material contamination,  has impacted the cost of the County’s recycling program dramatically.  In 2017, the recycling program only required $2.4 million in County funding.  This year, due to falling commodity pricing and higher costs to address contamination, that amount will exceed $6 million dollars.  For 2020, we expect the program funding request to exceed $7 million.  This is not sustainable in the long term and is why we need each town’s support to control costs and reduce contamination.”

With that they reduced our recycling yard pick-ups from twice a week to once a week. We do not have the capacity to stop overflow without monitoring how the recycling is being placed in the dumpsters and what is being placed in the dumpsters.

The amount of trash that is entering the recycling dumpsters has been an ongoing issue and the County is requiring better oversight as to what is being placed in the dumpsters to stop contamination and to ensure all boxes are being broken down. The Township is implanting the County’s suggestion to have the recycling center open only when employees are working. To ensure we are meeting the County’s requirements the recycling yard will now be open -  Monday – Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month 8 AM to 12 PM (Holidays will effect these dates).  The Township of Mount Laurel thanks the residents for their cooperation and understanding.

Residents can drop off holiday lights for recycling at Mount Laurel's recycling center on Midlantic Dr.
There is a designated bin for the lights under the blue shed.

The recycling center will be closed on days the Township building is closed
