Frequently Asked Questions

What size trash can should I use?
For the safety of the Township employees and your trash can, please do not use cans larger than 35 gallons and do not place more than 60 pounds in any one can. The average public works employee must pickup cans at 500 houses a day. Overweight cans can cause injury to the employee and additional expense to the taxpayers. Overweight cans also have a higher tendency to break. Mount Laurel Township will not reimburse the homeowner in cases where oversized/overweight cans are damaged by public works employee's attempt to tip them.

I just purchased a new washer/dryer/refrigerator, etc., will the Township collect the one I have replaced?
Call the Public Works Department (856) 234-2070 and ask to be put on the "White Goods" pickup list. These collections are done on Wednesdays. If you live in a condo or apartment, call your association or management agency to arrange for a pickup.

I would like to get rid of my old tires, what should I do?

The Township will pickup tires WITHOUT RIMS on the third Friday of each month. You must call (856) 234-2070 to arrange for pickup. Only ten tires per year per household.

What is the Leaf Collection Pickup Schedule?
The Leaf Collection Pickup schedule is now available.

What is the Brush Pickup Schedule?
There is no specific schedule for brush collection. Please call the Public Works Department at (856) 234-2070 to arrange for pickup. The Township does not have the resources to pickup brush created by private businesses at your home. Please ensure that your landscaper/contractor removes the brush following their work.

What should I do if my streetlight is not working or broken?
First, write down the unique identifying number on the pole. Second, Call PSEG at 1(800) 436-7734 to report the problem. PSEG will add the pole to the list. It normally takes a few weeks for PSEG to respond with action, so please be patient.
You can also report a streetlight/lamp outage: Report a Streetlamp Outage or PSE&G Streetlamp Outage Report via FAX (print and fax)

How do I make my home more energy efficient?
PSE&G offers Energy Assistance and Conservation Programs. Please visit this link to find out more: http://www.pseg.com/customer/home/save/overview.jsp

I live in a condominium, who picks up my trash?
While Mount Laurel Township Public Works Employees do not pickup your trash, your association is reimbursed for the cost of this service through the Municipal Services Reimbursement Act.

Is there priority for snow plowing?
Yes, Mount Laurel Public Works plows "major local roads" (Union Mill Road, Ramblewood Parkway, etc.) before "secondary roads" . Third priority is minor local roads and courts. Please remove cars and basketball courts from the street when there is a strong possibility of snowfall. This will help the Township clear the streets quicker and get to your street faster.

If you shovel your driveway before the plows get to your neighborhood shovel the snow from your driveway and sidewalk to the right side of your driveway as you look out to the street. This will help ensure that the plow does not throw the snow back in your driveway again.

I put my garbage out in a box right next to my trash, how come you didn't take it?
The Township is not permitted to pickup trash left in cardboard boxes. The County Landfill will not permit cardboard to be dumped. Please use a regulation 35 gallon trash can and please do not mix recyclables with regular trash.
